Commencement records
Scope and Contents
The Eastern Michigan University Commencement records contains programs, invitations, clippings, transcripts from commencement events held on campus. Records span from 1854 when the Eastern Michigan University was known as the Michigan State Normal School until April 2017. The collection is arranged into four series: Event Audio/Visual, Event Photographs, Press Releases & Clippings, and Programs, Transcripts and Ephemera Planning documents for December 17, 2006, there is a complete record of the planning of a commencement ceremony. Records date from 1854-2013 with gaps in the historical record from 1855-1858, 1860, 1866, 1868, 1878 and 1882-1883.

Abstract
The Eastern Michigan University Commencement records documents the Spring and Winter Commencement of undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at the institution. Materials are arranged chronologically and include programs, transcripts, videos, and newspaper clippings. Records date from 1854 to 2017, with the exception of 1855-1858, 1860, 1866, 1868, 1878 and 1882-1883 which are missing from the historical record. This collection reflects all names of the institution: Michigan State Normal School, Michigan State Normal College, Eastern Michigan College and Eastern Michigan University.

Materials in box 1, series Videos require the use of a VCR. Materials in box 2, series Microfilm require the use of a Microfilm reader.
Accruals note
University Archives continues to add materials to the collection. To reflect additions, edits to the finding aid will occur at the end of each calendar year.
