Scope and Contents

The Campus Development records include newspaper clippings, news releases, campus project plans, and campus master plans from 1849 - 2002. Formats in the collection includes paper records, black and white photographs, as well as blueprints and architectural plans.

The Campus Development records have been divided into four series: Clippings, Correspondence, Campus construction projects, and Reports and Surveys.

The Clippings series includes all news clippings from 1849 to 2002, with the bulk from local Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor newspapers, as well as the Eastern Echo. The clippings from 1849 through 1950 are mostly composed of photocopies.

The Correspondence series includes all correspondence relevant to campus development from 1871 to 2002. Campus construction projects series includes materials related to specific development projects, as well as more general materials about the campus landscape and building histories and the Reports and surveys series includes bound and distributed content relating to campus development, such as proposals for capital projects, architectural studies and reports, and strategic planning records.

Abstract

Michigan State Normal School was founded in 1849 in Ypsilanti, MI, and the Campus Development records include materials from the founding of the school and development of the original campus property, as well as subsequent changes and developments to the campus through 2002. The collection includes newspaper clippings, news releases, campus project plans, and campus master plans. Formats included in the collection range from paper documents, black and white photographs, as well as blueprints and architectural plans. Records in the collection date from 1849 - 2002.
