Scope and Contents

The Preservation Eastern collection contains information on the organization's constitution, correspondence, meeting agendas, program history, clippings, flyers, newsletters and special events. The collection is arranged chronologically first and then topically. Chronological files from 1979-2016 contain the bulk of routine documents and the series Projects are more specific to advocacy efforts and supplies for outreach. Records date from 1966 to 2016. Additonally there are 3 objects in the collection, a "Don't Squelch Welch" button from the 1984 effort to preserve Welch Hall on campus, a 1996-1997 and 2010-2011 Student Organization of the Year award.

Administrative History

Preservation Eastern is a student organization formed by graduate students in the Historic Preservation Program at Eastern Michigan University. The mission of Preservation Eastern is to advocate and promote the preservation and understanding of Michigan's historic and cultural resources. The group provides opportunities for members to gain contacts and valuable practical experience in many different areas of historic preservation.

Abstract

The Preservation Eastern collection documents the inner workings of a student organization for graduate students in the Histoic Preservation program at Eastern Michigan University. The group provides valuable experiences for students before entering the preservation field. The collection is arranged chronologically and topically. It is divided into two series. The two series in the collection are: Chronological 1979-2016, and Projects. Records date from 1966 to 2016 and include meeting minutes, event flyers, newsletter, and advocacy efforts.
