Scope and Contents

The Swaziland Project collection documents the activities of the Swaziland Curriculum Development Project (Afr-c-1172). The collection contains administrative files, course materials and employee files collected between 1975 and 1985. The records in the collection are arranged in four series. The Administrative files series is alphabetically arranged and contains program proposals, reports and documentation regarding the program and personnel policies. The Irene Allen files series contain materials collected by Dr. Allen who served in the role of field management for the program from 1982-1984, and is arranged alphabetically and contains correspondence, meeting minutes, curriculum materials and reports. The Personnel files series are arranged alphabetically by last name. Files in the series typically contain basic biographical information, resume/CV and correspondence to and/or from the employee. The Course Materials series contains the actual course materials for students and teachers developed through the project. Materials are arrange first alphabetically by course, then by grade level in asceding order. It is a complete record of the program.

Biographical / Historical

In April of 1975, Eastern Michigan University was contracted through an Agency for International Development (AID) grant and the Swaziland Ministry of Education. Eastern Michigan University was tasked with developing and establishing functional systems for curriculum development and to provide formal training for Swaziland. The program was known as Swaziland Curriculum Development Project (Afr-c-1172) or simply Swaziland Project and ran from 1975 until 1983.
